Trenton's Birth Story

I'm sure I'll forget things and have to edit this later!

So after taking castor oil for the third time within a few days I decided it was time for bed. I awoke at 1:49 exactly having to go pee and was having contractions. I tried to go back to sleep, but, no luck. I went downstairs and timed the contractions for about an hour. They were about 2 minutes apart but only lasted 35-45 seconds. Well I called labor and delivery to see if I should come in or wait and see. After listening to how I sounded on the phone the nurse suggested I come in and be seen. So we called my mom to come over and then I changed clothes and grabbed a few things. Meanwhile, Josh was on the computer. When my mom got here he decided he needed to wash his face and pack some things for himself... yeah great timing lol. Anyway, when mom saw me she said there was no way I'd be coming home without a baby and so she called Kaitlin to come and stay with the kids so she could come to the hospital too.

When we got to the hospital we were admitted and I was checked and surprised to find out I was 5cm and would be staying. So the nurse keeps watching Trent's heartbeat because it kept getting really low with every contraction. So of course Josh keeps yelling at me to breath through the contractions. Well, then on call Dr. comes in and checks me and says he wants to break my water to get things really going. I ask if I can have an epidural first and he says no. So I already know where this is going; it's going to fucking hurt. So he breaks my water. Immediately, the contractions are unbearable (from my point of view), and I am in a tremendous amount of pain. So for the next 45 minutes I have very painful contractions that are less then a minute apart... real fun. I might as well of had pitocin because the contractions were just as quick and painful.

By my next check I only have a lip of cervix left and so the nurse pushes it out of the way and tells me I'm going to start pushing. They want the baby out now. So I start pushing which Trent absolutely hates and his heartbeat starts stopping with each contraction. (meanwhile, I'm pretty sure I have pooped quite a bit multiple times all over the table lol.) So, finally Dr. Ogden arrives (my dr.) he looks at the chart of my stats and Trent's and tells them we need an OR now and tells me there is no other option. So great, I'm in extreme pain and now I'm freaked out. I'm on the stretcher and they are running down the hall and Ogden (a very calm and collected individual) is yelling at people and rushing (which I will later find out is how the nursing staff really knew it was serious. He is apparently, always calm under pressure). So we go into the OR and they put me under. During the period of time when I was out Trent was taken out and rushed to the nursery, although, I later find out they weren't seriously concerned with his health. They could tell he would be fine at this point. He was placed under oxygen and observation for about 30 hours. Me, on the other hand, everyone was worried about. My uterus tore during the procedure, but, they don't know when and when this happens apparently you have less than 30 minutes to fix the problem before the patient dies. I received 2.5 bags of donated blood, thank you to all who donate, and for a while it was touch and go whether or not I'd have to be air lifted to a larger hospital. Then, they were sure I'd have to be in the ICU when I came out of surgery. I'm not sure why I didn't have to be, but I went right up to the maternity ward where I awoke about 5 hours later. (of course no one told me the sordid details until days later...)

Trenton Matthew Havens was born 8/15/2011 at 7:25am. He weighed 9 pounds 14 ounces and was 22 inches long. For the first few days I referred to him as my little linebacker. He completely skipped size newborn clothes and fills out 0-3 and 3 months sizes like a champ =) We came home from the hospital Wednesday night and Dr. Ogden was very impressed with my recovery.

Finally, today, a week +1 later I am feeling much better. The only thing sore is my incision and I still have some swelling in my legs, belly, and stomach. I've lost 17 pounds since delivery, yay me! With about 50 pounds to go to get to my goal weight, but 21 to get to my pre-pregnancy weight.

A quick note to Baby H

Dear Baby H, Mommy would love to meet you today. Time to come out and meet your family, before mommy kills everyone with bitchiness. I understand that you might not decide to come out for 3 more weeks, but, today would be the best choice. Love you lots already! XOXO

Under the stars

Sometimes I wish that I had married someone with similar interests. I like to watch a movie now and then but not every time we are alone. The same goes for sitting on the couch using the computer and for having the TV on just to have noise. It wouldn't bother me as much if sometimes we did things I suggest (sitting outside under the stars, going for a walk, cuddling on a blanket outside while the kids run around and play, sleeping out under the stars...). It's hard to love someone for so long and feel so completely different. Sometimes it's like your too comfortable with each other. It's easy to take each other for granted. I've been trying for years now to make sure he feels special, interesting, and loved, why can't he do the same? Maybe it's just pregnancy hormones. I'm feeling low and taken for granted. I need to be hugged, kissed, even casually touched more than when he wants "adult time." Even one spontaneous hug, and kiss would
Make me feel so much more wanted and loved.
